Anna Wintour, renowned Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Magazine, is showing us another side of her fashion empire by adding ‘sneaker curator’ to her resume by way of Nike and its longstanding partnership with Jordan Brand.
The ultimate fashion sneaker: Air Jordans, inspired by Anna Wintour. Every Vogue editor remembers their first AWOK, the little acronym (short for Anna Wintour Okay) scrawled on each print page by our inimitable editor in chief. It is the ultimate sign of approval in this office and the wider fashion world. Now, it is being applied to a delightful new venture with @jumpman23: a limited-edition capsule of Air Jordans as edited by Vogue and inspired by the woman in charge. For the collaboration, Jordan Brand has reimagined two versions of its iconic sneaker. Tap the link in our bio to see both.

The “Air Jordan Edited by Vogue” collaboration offers a new spin on the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 3 silhouettes, with Wintour as the muse for the two new pairs per style. This is the first time that the brand’s iconic silhouettes have even been edited, but it makes sense that the most important pen in fashion journalism would be the first to do it.
In a video teaser that announced the collab (seen above), Anna Wintour showcases a secret talent and highlights a fiery new pair of the Air Jordan 1 in such a cool way.
The Js in question —renamed the AJ1 “High Zip AWOK”—features the following stylish details: a bold, metallic zipper that reveals a vibrant, Crimson Red tongue and is available in University Red or an off-white color called Sail. The Air Jordan 3 sneaker gets some stylish treatment in the form of sparkly tweed, a homage to her favorite Chanel suits, and come in the colors black and red. Both sneakers feature Wintour’s “AWOK” signature on the soles and a red tag that reads “Edited by Vogue.”
In a press release, more information behind the signature is revealed. Featured on all four pairs, the “AWOK” signature is an all-too-familiar staple among the fashion icon’s colleagues. “When Anna Wintour gives her approval for editorial or creative, she simply writes ‘AWOK,’ which stands for ‘Anna Wintour Okay.’ The Vogue Editor-in-Chief teamed up with Jordan Brand to put this approval stamp on two iconic silhouettes for the ultimate co-sign.”
The AJ1 “High Zip AWOK” will be available as a limited release next week Saturday (July 21) at select retailers, including KITH and Nordstrom, followed by a wider release on the SNKRS app beginning July 23. The AJ3 “AWOK” will drop on Friday, September 7.
Don’t miss out on this drop that is sure to be a hit amongst fashion lovers and kick enthusiasts alike.
